Catherine Cruikshank has over three decades of experience in the field of geriatrics, specializing in dementia, with her interest beginning when her grandfather developed Alzheimer's disease. She has always worked personally and directly with family caregivers and persons with dementia.
Catherine Cruikshank has a master’s degree in Geriatric Administration with a dissertation on Elder Abuse and Neglect. Her Doctoral studies in Gerontology focused on Alzheimer’s disease with an interest in behaviors and family dynamics. Throughout her career, she has committed herself to a psycho-sociological approach when working with individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). In addition to her research, curriculum, and program developments, she has authored a training manual for understanding and reacting to challenging behaviors. Cruikshank has spoken at numerous national and international conferences and has been published in the International Journal of Gerontechnology.
Catherine Cruikshank recently held the position of Director of Education for Aqualane Clinical Research, a startup clinical trial site in Naples Florida. Previously, as Executive Director, she opened and got licensed Restoration Senior Living of Naples. Prior to this, she was at Amavida Fort Myers where she expanded the new memory care environment, and enhanced services for residents throughout the independent and assisted living communities, who were experiencing memory issues. Prior to this, she was with the Alzheimer’s Association from 2004-2018 as the Director of Education, where she developed, presented, and oversaw the delivery of educational programs and staff in seventeen counties. During her tenure, she was invited to consult on the development of several nationwide, standardized curriculums.
